FORT MYERS, FLORIDA: The Federal Alliance for Safe Homes (FLASH) has certified Storm Smart Industries as a Participating Contractor in the ‘My Safe Florida Home’ inspection and matching grant program.
This certification allows for qualified citizens to receive up to $5,000 in matching funds toward the ‘hardening’ of their primary residence against the potential dangers posed by wind and rain events such as hurricanes. Categories for home improvement include:
- Improving the strength of the roof deck attachment
- Creating a secondary water barrier to prevent water intrusion
- Improving the survivability of your roof surface
- Bracing gable ends in your roof framing
- Reinforcing roof-to-wall connections
- Upgrading exterior wall opening protections
- Upgrading exterior doors (including garage door)
It is anticipated that the bulk of the matching funds will be utilized by most homeowners for exterior hurricane protection products such as impact-resistant glass, roll-down shutters, accordion shutters, and wind abatement screens.
