Smart Companies named a finalist for 2011 Manufacturer of the Year

Smart Companies was named one of 16 finalist for the 2011 Manufacturer of the Year, announced company president, Brian Rist.

At the annual Manufacturers’ Summit and Global Marketplace on November 30-December 1, 2011 in Orlando, Florida, the Manufacturers Association of Florida announced the winners of this year’s competition.

A panel of twenty-four judges narrowed the competition to sixteen finalists; winners were chosen in four categories. Each company was judged on: leadership; strategic planning; customer and market focus; measurement, analysis and knowledge management; workforce focus; and process management. In addition to evaluation of applications, tours of finalists’ facilities were made by the judges.

Winners of the award were Pharmaworks, Inc., Goodrich Corporation, Engineered Polymer Products, FARO Technologies and Nipro Diagnostics. Other finalists included Anheuser-Busch, InBev, Inc., BAE Systems Southeast Shipyards, Inc., Georgia-Pacific Corporation, Publix Supermarkets – Deli Kitchen, Correct Craft, Inc., Shaw Development, LLC, TimBar Packaging &Display, Entegra Roof Tile, Plasma-Therm, LLC, The Smart Companies, Inc., Florida Machine Works and Worldwide Superabrasives, LLC.

“As you can see by the list of winners and finalists, we were honored to be included amongst such great companies. To be recognized by fellow manufacturers is great,” said Rist.

“All of the finalists demonstrate a commitment to excellence in the manufacturing business, but our winners are the “best of the best” manufacturers in Florida this year. We are proud of their commitment to their business, their customers and their employees,” said Nancy Stephens, Executive Director, Manufacturers Association of Florida.

Manufacturer of the Year Finalist

The Smart Companies has been nominated as a finalist for the “Manufacturer of the Year” Award, for the 2nd year in row, by the Manufactures Association of Florida. After being nominated for the award, a questionnaire is completed and returned for the Judges review. After they have completed the review of the questionnaire, a phone interview is conducted to determine which nominees advance to the Award Finalist stage. Once nominated for the Finalist stage, a Judges site visit is scheduled and conducted. During the site visit the Judges will tour, observe, and ask questions related to the six judging criteria categories. When all this is completed and site visits to the rest of the nominated Award Finalist are completed,  the Judges will call a conference and come to a consensus and the Winner of the Manufacturer of the Year Award and announced at the annual summit in Orlando, FL.

We Care Winner

Lee County, Florida, September 20th 2011: Storm Smart Industries installed free hurricane protection on the Center for Visually Impaired Persons this past week because of the center’s winning submission in Storm Smart’s “We Care” program.

This really does my heart good. We donate something every year, and this time the workers and I are really pleased to install the shutters at this center,” said Mike Killeen of Storm Smart. “I call it a privilege to give back to the community.”

Storm Smart is covering all cost associated with this project which includes all material, manufacturing, and installation. “The hurricane protection worth nearly 14,000 dollars will help protect the 10,000 square foot building from storm damage. The center, located in North Fort Myers, has been open for 30 years, and has never had any protection against any tropical storms or hurricanes.

“I am thrilled to get these shutters and the other protections,” said Margaret Lincoln, director of the center. “We have just gotten about 100-thousand dollars worth of special computers to help the visually impaired. This will help to protect that special hardware from being damaged or destroyed.”

Sandy Martin, a client at the center, says she hopes the center can become a certified hurricane shelter for the visually impaired. Martin went through Hurricane Wilma in Collier County, and told us : “It is very frightening to be visually impaired, and to have to hunker down in an apartment, while the storm is whirling outside. I would feel better to be at the center, with people I know and trust, if there is a hurricane.”

Storm Smart Building Systems becomes the Smart Companies

Storm Smart Industries has merged several divisions, product lines, and entities that have been built over the years, leading to a re-branding of the company to Smart Companies announced president & CEO Brian Rist.

When the company started in 1996, it focused mainly on the manufacturing and installation of residential and commercial storm protection products. As clients realized that its storm protection provided additional benefits such as energy savings, the company found their clients were looking for other smart solutions to a variety of home service needs, leading them to add numerous products and services.

“Our focus has become to build and create a company that is focused on helping our customers improve their lifestyles by living a sustainable existence and saving the environment – while at the same time, saving money,” said Rist

The company is developing divisions that will offer energy-smart solutions for home technology such as control lighting, solar water heaters, doors, windows and window coverings & more.

“Other divisions that we are growing into will include our solar and photovoltaic systems, energy efficient doors & windows, and of course the continued growth of our storm systems. The challenge was to bring these companies together under one branding umbrella. Our products make homes sustainable, greener and more energy efficient-that’s just smart. Storm Smart Is Gold Sponsor For Harry Chapin Hunger Walk

Fort Myers, FL – November 23, 2010- Storm Smart Industries kicked off this holiday season with a “Gold Sponsorship” donation for the Harry Chapin Food Bank on November 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Storm Smart Miromar Outlet Showroom location.
