Five Simple Yet Effective Winter Homekeeping Tips
If your home needs some tidying up this winter, you don’t have to wait around for the traditional spring cleaning. You’ll want to get your home in order before those holiday gatherings take place. If the temperature is too cold to go outside much, there’s plenty you can do inside your home that will make you feel better and make your home more effective and organized.
Cleaning Your Pantry
Chances are you have some things hiding in your pantry that could be thrown away. At the very least you’d do well to reorganize your pantry and clean it out. Take everything out and wipe down the shelves and then put the items you still plan on using back in and organize them in a practical way.
Vacuuming and Dusting
If anyone in your household has allergies, dusting is a great way to help relieve symptoms. Vacuuming is a relatively easy chore that often gets overlooked. Plan on doing these tasks every other week, and if you haven’t been keeping up, winter is a great time to get started.
Cleaning Your Kitchen
Both before and after preparing a big holiday meal, you’ll want to give your kitchen a deep cleaning. Scrub your oven, stovetop, and hood range and clean the inside of your refrigerator. Disinfect your tea kettle or any other heavily-used items during the cold months. If you have too many pots and pans that you don’t use, consider donating them to charity.
Preventing Dirty Floors
Use a rough mat outside of your front door for wiping off winter shoes and leaving them outside. This will help reduce the amount of mud, dirt, and anything else you don’t want on your home’s flooring.
Experts recommend that you turn and rotate your mattress every quarter so it wears evenly. While you’re at it be sure to vacuum the mattress to remove dust and other allergens so you can sleep and feel better.
