How to Help After Hurricane Harvey
Americans are very charitable and donate millions upon millions of dollars every year to help those in need. On the other side of the coin, there are some unscrupulous individuals who prey on the unsuspecting during times of crisis. If you want to donate to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey or Hurricane Irma, be sure you know where your money is going first.
While donations of items like food and clothing can be helpful, donating money is often the best strategy to make sure everyone can be helped out by your generosity. If you’re worried about your money not going where you want it to, you might be better off donating to an established and reputable organization such as the American Red Cross or the Salvation Army.
Here are a handful of other charities accepting donations to help those in the path of the recent devastation hurricanes have dished out:
- Catholic Charities of USA
- Donors Choose
- Global Giving
- Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund
- Save the Children
- United Way of Greater Houston
If you live in an area affected by a hurricane, there may be other ways you can help out such as volunteering your time. Check with the aforementioned organizations to find out more ways to help. Storm Smart’s We Care program donates a whole house of free hurricane protection to a family in need once a month during hurricane season. To learn more about the program, call 239-274-2700.
